Triple Jump
A story of perseverance
The above poem was my third place entry into the 2024 Dominica Literature Contest. I copied it here as a picture, because the original formatting and spacing is important to how I want others to view this piece. The poem is a celebration of our first ever Olympic gold medal win in 2024.
I tried to capture the movement of a triple jump artist with the indentation of each stanza. As another Easter egg, the athlete’s name is also highlighted within the poem itself.
It tells the struggle of a determined athlete, whilst running parallel to different stages in life. From the innocence of early childhood, to the brash boldness of adolescence, the triumph of adulthood and the serenity of reaching one’s golden years successfully.
Enjoy.
It is from a poetry & short-story collection book that I had put out.
